Fracking was due to begin in Lancashire that morning 15th Oct 2018. Energy firm Cuadrilla had hoped to start work at the site in at Preston New Road, Little Plumpton, near Blackpool, the previous Saturday but this was delayed by the effects of Storm Callum. It followed an environmental campaigner failing in a bid to halt the work at the High Court on Friday.

Calais, France: Migrants from Afghanistan enjoy a game of football in the Calais migrant camp, otherwise known as the 'jungle'. They are playing on the south side of the camp, which had only a few weeks earlier been demolished and the people living there evicted, in an effort by the French authorities to discourage migrants wishing to gain access to the motorway by jumping over or cutting their way through the fence seen in the background of the image.
